I've always believed in starting a new year with the motto "start as you mean to go on... " This year has been so difficult, the hardest year of my life. But 2014 is here now, and I wanted to start it off with something to set the tone for the next year. So I went snow camping! I've never been snow camping but it sounded adventurous and I want more adventure in 2014. I set out with 4 people I'd never met before and ended up with 4 new best friends. A perfect way to ring out the old and ring in the new. Here's to adventure!!!
Wishing all of you happy and healthy New Year!
Yes, you CAN fit 5 people and their winter backpacking gear into one Subaru Outback, but not if you need skis or snowshoes too.
Mountain View shelter where some of our group stayed. They have a nice wood stove in there to keep you toasty warm in the middle of winter.
Home, sweet home.
Looks cozy (and gigantic!) in there.
Some of the guys took me out on a nice dayhike with a bushwhacking adventure at the end.
Care for a dip? Polar Bear Club, anyone? Anyone????
Watching the sun set on the hardest year of my life.

Goodbye 2013!
Hello 2014
Heading home.
Looking forward to the next adventure!
WOW! Nifty pictures and an inspiring way to approach life. Well done but "Brrrrrr". ;-)

Oh, it's been decades since I snow-camped - fun! (Well, except for peeing outside in deep snow.) I hope 2014 is a wonderful year for you.

Dearest Janel,
I had not checked your blog for a long while, being living in my small universe since the fall. Oddly you have been very much on my mind since the new year. I am still wondering if you would like to come to dinner sometime. But maybe that is not something that would suit you in this relaunching time. I still go to Monday night knitting most weeks but the group has gotten pretty small. Usually just Andrea, Teague and myself. Sometimes a new U of O student named Vanessa. Anyway you are in my thoughts.
Most fondly,
Mary

The very best of wishes for 2014 - hoping to 'see' you back on Ravelry this year and that you know we have been missing you and thinking of you
