The weather has suddenly gotten balmy here, so I spent some time yesterday playing around in the garden and checking out my flowery goodness. Most of the flowers were tiny little things, although the Mahonia (thanks everyone) is a really big plant, and it's even more in bloom now.
Although I had fun looking at the flowers, what I really spent my time doing was clearing out a bunch of blackberry vines. Those suckers are mean! Not only are they very thorny, but the vines grow nice an long, and where the tips touch the ground, they sprout new roots so they're attached to the ground in more than one spot! But I got a nice big area cleared of them and now I have my "secret garden" back and I'm excited to do a little more manicuring and planting back there.
And I have been celebrating the snow melting enough that grass, albeit smashed, browned, and muddy, has become visible. (Chicago,Il. area)

Was in the garden yesterday as it was 53 degrees here, a virtual heatwave. These photos are inspiring me to get outside again, but for sacrificing — knitting.
Thank you. Sharon
