Sorry there was no post yesterday, I was on the road again - 14 hours straight - that really takes a lot out of you!
I didn't get much fibery fun in yesterday or today, so I leave you with a few pics from the road...
Here is a picture of Mt. Shasta hastily snapped with my iphone as I was driving. Mt. Shasta is a volcanic mountain that rises up from the plain, similar to Mt. Rainier or Mt. Hood. On the drive into California from the North, you round a corner and suddenly Mt. Shasta looms right in front of you. It's quite spectacular!
I can has cheezeburger? This picture wasn't from this roadtrip, it was from the one before. But I thought I'd share it anyhow. This is my old cat Ben checking out the scenery on our way up to Oregon. I think he's checking out the cheeseburgers on the billboard....
Anybody else see the irony in this picture?
This is from an independent gas station that I stopped at on my way home. Next time I'll pay an extra $.02 per gallon to make sure I get a nice place to go...
Tomorrow I'll have some reeeeeeeeeellllllllllyyyyyy pretty yarn to share with you all, and I'll pick the week's book winner, and coming up on Monday a new pattern will be released!
Thanks to everyone who said they would proof a pattern. Just to clarify, it doesn't need to be be test knit, I've already had them test knit. I just want someone to read over the pattern and make sure I have all the chart symbols in there and I haven't left off something like how many stitches to cast on or something. I've saved everyone's name who wants to proof and I'll be picking proofers randomly!
OK, on to the good stuff! Winners!
Thursday's winner for the Lothlorien pattern is ShaylaMyst!
Friday's winner for the Lothlorien pattern is CarrolB!
Comment Contest Reminder - each day I'm giving away a downloadable version of the featured pattern. This week's featured pattern is Lothlorien. Leave a comment and you'll be automatically entered for the random drawing. Winners are chosen by random number generator. Each Sunday I choose one person by random number to win a copy of the book when it comes out! So keep commenting to be entered for the drawing.
What glorious scenery. Northern California has some outstanding natural vistas. I hope you are enjoying it all and I'm looking forward to seeing the yarn.
But, you cheeseburger hungry cat now has me craving a cheeseburger, dang. :)

Love the kitty! Orange kitties are really special, although I don't have one right now. Maybe someday - but we have 6 right now!
Love the sock pattern, too - hope it's me! I'll most likely get the book anyway, but who knows?

I agree with you - I'd pay the extra 2 cents/gallon for a better bathroom!
Looks like you've been seeing some pretty amazing scenery on your drives!

Thanks for the laugh... that bathroom picture is both terrifying and hilarious!

Spectacular view of Mt. Shasta! Is that snow on its top? Still at this time of year?

Beautiful scenery. Gas station bathrooms are one of the worst parts of a road trip.

Randomly (not!) submitting my name again for one of your lovely patterns. Loth-LORIE-n suits me. :)

Ben is wearing a harness??? How does he like it? And how do you get it on him without getting scratched?

Sorry you had so much travel. Views like that of Mt Shasta helped, I hope!
I enjoyed the picture of Ben!

Cats in cars are always a hoot.

I remember seeing Mt. Shasta when I was very young (back in the 70's) and thought is was the most beautiful mountain in the world. After that I wanted to plant Shasta daisies in the yard.
Thank you so much for the pattern. I'm going to start it right away. What? I have several projects already going? I should finish a few before starting another? Sure, I'll get right on that... after I cast on these socks. :)

Yes, I definitely see the irony of the bathroom situation. I was traveling with a friend when we went to a skank bathroom. I told her it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a week. She thought I was exaggerating and then she went in. We agreed never to go there again.

Hi Janel,
I'll have a better read through later to see if I can find the date, but I just wanted to say I hope the book will be ready for Sock Summit.
Both your books are at the top of my must buy list :-)
Cute kitty! I wish mine were more comfortable in the car.
Cheers!

I love Mt. Shasta! If I remember correctly there is a great diner in its shadow, right on the same highway you were on.

Mt. Shasta is gorgeous, and so is Ben (the gas station washroom, not so much...).

I know that drive too well! Never done it with a cat though.

It took eight years of living in FL to realize how much I missed seeing the mountains. I really enjoy driving through them in the Eastern part of the US>

I have your first book and am so looking forward to the second one. "Rivendell" was the reason I learned how to do socks although I haven't had the courage to dive into that pattern yet.
