signs of spring are everywhere.... and no sign of winter yet.

 

 

 

 

birch dreaming deep

The first level of the Knitterati mystery has been completed.  The pattern for this level is called Birch Dreaming Deep and it's a crescent shaped shawl with a birch leaf lace border.  Those on the quest of the knitterati had lots of fun solving some mysteries, conundrums and riddles, and along the way this is what popped out!  The sample is knit in the club yarn, which is Hazel Knits Entice, a really scrumptious blend of merino/cashmere/nylon, dyed in our exclusive club colorway "Iceland".  The pattern is named Birch Dreaming Deep because it is inspired by the ancestral boreal birch forests of Iceland which no longer carpet that beautiful island because it was heavily timbered at the time of the vikings.  I am fascinated by landscapes and the way they can change.  Iceland is beautiful with its verdant windswept mountains, but it must have looked very different when it was covered in forest.  You can read more about the forests and non-forests of Iceland here.  To learn more about the Knitterati club you can visit our ravelry group or find out more at janellaidman.com

 

 

 

 

a case of cute-itis

We are not really football fans in the Bonnet household. Even Mr. Bonnet, who enjoys watching fighting, isn't really into football.  I usually watch the Superbowl because a) it's good knitting time and b)good snacks, and c) I like the commercials (I know, how insidious is it that we look forward to advertising with gusto? - someone has really got me hoodwinked!).  But this weekend instead I had a bad case of cute-itis.  I got a bee in my bonnet to re-design the Rustling Leaf Press website and this seemed infinitely more fun than watching football, and really, who cares if I don't see a commercial?

So I holed up in my sanctum sanctorum here at Rustling Leaf Press World Headquarters, had some delicious soup and cranked out a website.  I would love it if you give it a whirl and let me know if it's working for you.  I put in a fancy thing on the first page but I'm not sure it actually works for everyone.  So if you get a crummy first page would you let me know?  And it would be helpful to know if you're using a Mac or a PC or an ipad and what browser you used (if possible).  [if you got a page not found error - try again I had a bad link - I need to learn to type!]

If you've ever visited RLP's website before, you'll notice some changes.  We're no longer selling the patterns from The Enchanted Sole individually.  But you can still get all of them in the book!  And all pattern sales have moved to the janellaidman.com website instead.  It's all part of operation spring cleaning here at HQ.

It hasn't all been websites and birdies around here though, knitting has been happening. 

 

 

I'm hoping to have it ready to wear by the time Stitches gets here, which means I've gotta bust a move on it!  So be prepared for all sweater all the time around here!
