The first level of the Knitterati mystery has been completed. The pattern for this level is called Birch Dreaming Deep and it's a crescent shaped shawl with a birch leaf lace border. Those on the quest of the knitterati had lots of fun solving some mysteries, conundrums and riddles, and along the way this is what popped out! The sample is knit in the club yarn, which is Hazel Knits Entice, a really scrumptious blend of merino/cashmere/nylon, dyed in our exclusive club colorway "Iceland". The pattern is named Birch Dreaming Deep because it is inspired by the ancestral boreal birch forests of Iceland which no longer carpet that beautiful island because it was heavily timbered at the time of the vikings. I am fascinated by landscapes and the way they can change. Iceland is beautiful with its verdant windswept mountains, but it must have looked very different when it was covered in forest.
