For those of you in the U.S. I hope you're enjoying the start of a lovely holiday weekend! Here in Eugene, the weather is glorious so Mr. Bonnet and I started off our weekend with a leisurely bike ride downtown and lunch at the aptly named Cafe Yumm. We have a nice bike path that runs along Amazon Creek for most of the way in to town. Along the way we spotted this guy - I think this is a blue heron. As we watched he treated us to a little fishing demo. I love the way he walks by sticking his neck out first, with his head coming along later. It's not on this video but he also does an interesting neck wriggle right before he's about to snap up a fish.
I hope your weekend is starting off swell too!

Great footage! Yes, he's a blue heron (one lives on my lake, in my back yard in Louisiana). It is hard to imagine their true size when you aren't level with them; however my bird book says they are 5' tall, and have a 7' wingspan. If you ever get to see one fly, it is a real treat!

Hey Janel. I was one of your t.a's at sock summit and really enjoyed learning from you. We also have blue herons here in Virginia although they are probably hiding out since we've had 10 plus inches of rain in the last couple of days.

Your feathered friend is beautiful. As are your patterns. I shall enjoy seeing more from you.
