At SOAR I made a beeline to the Schacht Spindle Co. booth to get a look at the Ladybug. Anyone who has known me for a while knows that my "power animal" is a ladybug! LOL. I love the little buggies. So I was already drawn to the Ladybug just by the name.
The wheel is nice and lightweight and compact, and it uses the same bobbins as the Matchless. The "plastic" wheel is really more like a lightweight resin composite, it's smooth and solid and not a weird flimsy plastic. The wheel has 3 handles for carrying. Treadling was incredibly smooth, and the feel of the wheel was similar to a Matchless although the orifice height is a little lower than a Matchless. It has a 16" flywheel and ratios from 7:1 to 15:1 with different whorls. It is a great entry level wheel! The only reason I am not buying this wheel is that it isn't really a folding portable wheel (i.e. can go on an airplane easily) so it wouldn't replace my Ashford Joy, and I already have a Matchless at home so I don't need another stationary wheel. However, if I were a new spinner, this would be a great choice.
The red wheel is very cute in person.
