Well sadly, my time in Eugene finally had to come to an end. First I had to say goodbye. The dogs didn't seem too worried, they were all sleeping. Lily had a rare form!
Saying Goodbye to Elissa and her mom was hard...
But I was curious about taking the train (Coast Starlight) home
Since it's a 28 hour ride (if you're lucky) I sprang for the sleeper-car roomette. That was fun! The room was cute and private. However it seems like it would be a little small for two people.
But there was actually enough room to spin! OK, so this is a posed picture, but right after this was taken I spun up 4 ounces on my Joy.
There definitely would not be enough room for two people and a spinning wheel. I actually spent most of my time on the journey knitting socks. I liked the train, but it is a slow trip. Unfortunately the most scenic parts were at night. Perhaps coming the other direction you might be more lucky. I would definitely consider taking the train again. By the way if you get the roomette you are automatically in first class which means all your meals in the dining car are free. The train also has an observation car and a lounge car. First class passengers are invited to a wine tasting as you pass through wine country, as well as free soft drinks and bottled water any time you want. It's a relaxing way to travel, but very slow.
